Love of Enemies

Matthew 5:43-48
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

In our world today, where we take sides in battle. We have 'coalitions of the willing.' Our enemies are at every corner, out to destroy us, how can we take the above verses to heart?
How can we, as rich of a nation and as a people continue to see ourselves as the force of good in the world? We have become hypocrites. We use other people, other societies and other's resources for our benefit. Some more than others.

Even those that may not necessary be 'for' the push for the global economy. An economy where the weak and poor suffer. Of no fault of their own. But they just happen to not be born here. So, when why are we born here? Why is this nation so full of self professed Christians and yet with all our wealth and all our resources, we still have the poor, hungry, oppressed in this country?

It is really time to look upon each other as brothers and sisters is this world we live in. It is not too late to turn back on this empire building. It is not too late to stop the killing. It is not too late to stop the propaganda and hateful rhetoric.

The only question is how. How can we, the weak and powerless (as compared to the top 1% wealthy individuals), make a difference? How can this be done peacefully?
