Things going well in NC

Sorry, I haven't been posting in a while.  I have been busy with family, work and the Obama campaign.  As you may have noticed, Obama is riding a huge wave of support and even making NC a 'toss-up' state.  Imagine that....North Carolina.  Yes, it is in the South but is actually a very progressive state as far as southern states are concerns.  Hopefully, in a month we will witness a definite change in the political landscape with an Obama win in NC.   You can tell is it very contested when your phone rings constantly from either a pollster or a robo-call from the republican campaigns.  Of course, there is flyer after flyer about why democrats are so bad and scary.  They can get pretty bad in this state.  It is NC, of course.  I just hope that people will use their best judgement and not some silly flyer (they are not supposed to be really effective) to make their decision.

So what made you support Obama?!

Long story. After years with the Bushes in charge, the war in Iraq, etc. I was looking for something beyond the ordinary. Most of congress were for the war. I started looking at the candidates and potential candidates early (2006). Because of YouTube and various internet sites, there was lots of information on Obama and his stance against the war while he was running for Senate in 2004. This really got me interested in his candidacy yet he hadn't 'decided' to run as of yet. I wanted someone who would get us out of the war and was more 'thoughtful' about getting the US into more wars. That is the main reason I have supported him.

As I learned more about Obama, he became very inspirational. Of course, there are tons of amazing speeches. The 2004 DNC speech, 'no blue states, no red states, just the United States of America', etc. He seemed to be someone that would bring the country and possibly the world together.

After he announced his candidacy for president, I really thought he didn't have a chance. I mean....his name is Barack Hussein Obama.....and he is half black...and and and...

But then he won Iowa. And almost won New Hampshire. Then I went down to South Carolina to help him win South Carolina. Months later he won the primary. I was surprised but still thought that it was going to be really close. McCain was, I thought, the best the Repubs had to offer. However, he picked Palin which I think yelped Obama in the end.

Anyway....I supported Obama initially because of the war but in the end it has become so much more than that. I feel like it is a movement. I have worked with the campaign and MOST of the people are 1st timers. That being they have never been involved in politics before (like myself).

Hopefully. Hopefully. He will be able to fulfill his campaign promises. Get us out of this war. Get the US on board with the fact that climate change is real. Help fight poverty.

How do the people in your part of this world see an Obama Presidency?

Personally, i was rooting for Obama too. Perhaps, my hope was that this would prove that change is possible.

And i heard from my friend that some people in her neighbourhood were celebrating Obama's victory by bursting crackers!!
